Six Of the Best
Shildon AFC played their penultimate home game of the season against Consett on Saturday 15th April 2017 and in a high scoring match they were worthy 6 – 3 winners.
Kicking with a strong wind behind them, Shildon took the lead on 17 minutes when Jordan Lavery fouled Billy Greulich-Smith in the box and Matty Robson scored from the spot kick.
Just before the break it was 2 – 0 when free kick specialist Lewis Wing fired past keeper Ross Coome from 25 yards.
Half Time: Shildon AFC 2 Consett 0
Consett got onto the score sheet two minutes into the second half when Jordan Lavery’s free kick from way out beat keeper Nick Liversedge. But from the restart Shildon when down the other end and Sam Hodgson scored the goal of the game, just a minute later.
On 79 minutes a cross from the left found Consett’s No 8 Daniel Craggs, and his powerful header beat the Shildon keeper for 3 – 2. Once again, Shildon went straight down and scored when Lewis Wing turned and fired in a great volley from close range on 80 minutes.
Adam Burnicle added another goal for Shildon with just five minutes remaining.
Consett never gave up and they pulled a goal back again. This time a cross from Jordan Nellis found Lewis Teasdale for an easy tap in.
Unbelievable, just a minute later after Consett’s goal the Railwaymen scored again when Micky Rae ran through and fired into the bottom corner for 6 – 3.
Remarkably, five goals had been scored in just eight minutes. Even more remarkable, every time Consett scored, Shildon retaliated and scored, just a minute later every time.
